The Summer 09 Wave: Dream Destination

I must say that I have to face the fact that I do have to move along and wake up to reality. Summer's out. It's been raining really really hard for a number of days now, to think there's actually no typhoon! I guess that the best way to leave summer and stop my summer ramblings is to travel (at least in my mind) for the last time.

I want to travel to as much places as possible but duh how will I be able to do that? There are so many countries I want to go to, all for different reasons. For this summer though...If I had all the money and the time in the world and if there would only be one choice to make...It has got to be Santorini!

You've probably seen Santorini in quite a number of films. Remember Mamma Mia? Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants? Yes, 1 and 2. How about that KC Concepcion and Richard Gutierrez film? I can't remember the title. LOL. But yeah, they were all pretty much set in beloved island, Santorini! It was actually in these films that made me want to go here. The place looks so clean and peaceful, add to that the very hospitable Grecians and the exotic food!

I actually don't know anything about it. It's just that whenever I hear it, colors blue and white just enter my mind. The sea and the houses! And so I kind of did a little research on my summer dream destination since it might be yours too...

Santorini is in Greece. Greece is in Europe. You probably know that by now, right? It's a small archipelago of volcanic islands. Wow! That's just like our country right? But how come ours looks nasty? Hahaha! Santorini used to be a single island yet what we see now are the remains of a volcanic eruption. And still, it' b-e-a-utiful! The island is the site of the famous Thera volcanic eruption. You may not have heard of this yet but that eruption is the source of the Atlantis legend. Now I know you know Atlantis. Do you think it really existed?

Houses, resorts, and establishments in Santorini are built side by side on the caldera, (like caldero in Spanish and in our language) which refers to the collapse of land due to a volcanic eruption. So locals or tourists usually just walk or travel by donkey. There are vehicles (tour buses, cabs, rental cars, cable cars!) of course but you'd just ruin the experience if you wouldn't look and savor the sights and the culture Santorini. Vehicles are suggested only if you want to travel a long distance. Why did I even suggest that? It's as if I'd been there already! Haha!

Now I wouldn't want to bore you with history. But that's not me saying that you disregard that okay? Histories are great! It's just that it really doesn't appeal to everyone...most especially people from our generation. Boo you! Let me just share instead some stuff you can do there.

If you love shopping...and if you have the money! (But I'm guessing you have the money because you can go to the place! Haha!) You can buy a lot of antique and artsy stuff made by Grecians themselves (e.g. umbrellas, paintings, ceramics). These are all originial so don't be shocked when you see they're expensive!

If you love food...Who doesn't? Time to tickle your taste buds and experience Grecian food! I don't know either how that would taste. Do you think it has some kind of Persian twist to it? No idea. So exciting!

If you love the nightlife...There is nightlife! There are bars and discos in Fira, Kamari, or Perissa (towns shall I call them?)...Drinks to enjoy, people to meet, wind to feel, music to hear!

If you love the beach...Oh this is not Boracay 2.0! I'm pretty sure this is a new thing in itself! And I bet...It's paradise!

I wonder when I'll ever get to Santorini :( I wish this is more than just a dream but as of now there really isn't any choice...Just have to keep dreaming! Ciao!
