You know when summer's about going out and being at the beach? There's this other half...the boring summer. It's that summer where you would just stay at home, eat and eat until you bloat (or float), and look for something to do. Most of the time you wouldn't find anything to do at all, really, so you'll just sleep. LOL. And then there comes the activities that you can do even if it's not summer, the typical ones, the boring but still entertaining -- TV, radio, internet, and yes, movies! That's where I'm driving at, right?
These were some of the films I got to watch when school had not yet opened. Some of these were just recommended, some I just found out on my own. I don't even recall these being shown in the cinemas, or maybe I was just too busy back then to keep in touch with the real world. Haha! These aren't really summer-themed or beach-bound flicks but nevertheless it would make you feel somehow that these could compensate for the boring summer days you had. Don't worry I wouldn't recommend you something nasty or someting that would waste your time.
Once

If you like musicals, I'm pretty sure you have never seen a musical quite like this. It's in the modern-day setting, so you wouldn't see them singing while talking to each other but this is a story of music...and love, of course! Once is the story of a struggling singer in Ireland who meets a girl who helps him write the songs he has been wanting to express what he has gone through. Their meeting was an unexpected one yet their chemistry is something you'd look forward to, something which would make you hope for more (that's a clue right there). I tell you, this is not your Music & Lyrics movie! That Hugh Grant film, remeber? This is the real thing, with songs written (as cliche as it sounds) from the heart...heck! One of the songs here, "Falling Slowly" won an Oscar!
* Okay I'm realizing now that I'm not the best person to make reviews! LOL. You just have to bear with me, all I can do is tell you a bit of a background and to tell you that you should trust me. These are really good stuff! Hahaha!
Alright, alright...from the looks of the poster you're probably thinking what the hell is this. This is Temptation Island! Don't be scared, this is not a sexy film! You wouldn't even call it an R-rated movie after you've seen it. This is actually a comedy and if you don't laugh to this, I don't know what you are. Temptation Island was a movie referred to me by a friend. I think was done during the 80's but it still stands the test of time. It's the story of beauty queens who get stranded on an island. They fight each other, fall in love with the men they're with, and just do some crazy stuff. If you want snippets I'm sure there a lot in YouTube because I myself checked out those first before seeing this. After seeing scenes where the islanders hallucinated on large ice creams and chickens on the island., I instantly said that I'm going to see this...

So who knew that actor, Zach Braff is also a director? This has got to be one of the best films that I have seen ever, add to that the marvelous soundtrack that Zach himself came up with. Garden State is a film about a man who goes back to his hometown (Garden State) due to his mother's death. His return gave him the chance to catch up with friends he had barely to talked to for the last several years. He didn't really want to come back because as much as possible he doesn't want anything to do with this father. This changes though after Zach's character, Andrew Largeman, rekindles old friendships and meets Sam, a pathological liar but an extremely charming person. This girl helps him face his problems and life itself. The songs in this film are spot on! When you see this film, you should also have a copy of the soundtrack!
...and you should to, along with the others I've mentioned! :)

Hey mister sister! It's such a coincidence that I watched 2 of the movies you just mentioned, during the summer break too! I enjoyed the songs from Garden State as well. I also saw Once. It's very real, but nonetheless sweet. If you enjoyed those movies, I can suggest others you might wanna try watching (if you haven't seem 'em, that is). =)
